Result of the IV Edition ICMH Fellowship
Thanks to the support of the International Commission of Military History through its Fellowship 2024, IV edition, Anna Batzeli, a researcher at the Democritus University of Thrace, has completed a study titled “Support Initiatives for the Families of the Fallen in Greece (1897–1922) and the Cretan State (1898–1913).”
The manuscript, currently under peer review at the International Journal of Military History and Historiography, examines state and societal efforts to provide financial and moral support to families of those lost in Greece’s major conflicts and Cretan revolts during this period. Drawing on extensive archival sources from the Hellenic Army Archives, General State Archives, and the Historical Archive of Crete, Batzeli’s research underscores the critical role of these initiatives in fostering national unity and sustaining soldiers’ morale. A further report of the ICMH-supported project will be published on the CAM website: https://cam.hypotheses.org/
