9. General description of contents

The Army General Archive

is responsible for verifies, classifies and catalogs all documents received for filing at Army level as well as the one that should be transferred from this archive to the Military Historical Archive

 

 

 

10. Categories, Linear measurement, Period covered

By the end of 2022, the Army General Archive  kept holdings of approximately the following amount:

        15 milion individual proceedings of former military

        The books of registration from all the Portuguese population and incorpartion in the army.

These holdings are from the period of 1857 up to now. As well all the documentation produced by the units of the portuguese army with administrative interest.

 

 

 

11. Access conditions (opening hours)

  • Monday to Friday | 10h00 – 12h30 and 13h30 – 15h00
  • Is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
  • The Army General Archive does not have communication content that allows assistance for visits in a foreign language and for visitors with disabilities or visual and hearing impairments
  • Part of the Army General Archive facilities have architectural barriers for people with reduced mobility.
  • Visits to the convent permitted subject to approval by the hierarchical structure of the army.
