8. General description of contents |
The holdings are divided into four main groups:
- The first division keeps records from the campaigns of the Portuguese Army. The division is divided in chronological order into 40 sections, the first covering the period before 1640 and the last the period after the revolution of 1974.
- The second division is responsible for records concerning the overseas territories. It is divided into 10 sections, one for each of the provinces.
-The third division (divided into 50 sections) keeps records arranged by subject order like Defence in general, Organisation of the Army, Legal matters, Fortifications, Uniforms, Map Library, etc..
-The fourth division is referred to the “Arquivo Militar de Lisboa” (Count of Lippe).
